Patient of the MonthOctober, 1999 Jack Briggs (Lt. Col., U.S.A. ret)
Jack has a history of hypertension and lipid abnormalities. He had a heart attack in 1985. He developed more angina, and ultimately underwent successful 4-vessel coronary bypass surgery in December 1990. He participated in the HeartCare cardiac rehabilitation program at Riverside Community Hospital, and has diligently adhered to a diet and exercise program since that time.. With the love and support of his wife, son, daughter and three grandchildren, Jack continues to live a healthy life-style. He has been on cholesterol lowering medications and aspirin. His blood pressure has been problematic, and he qualified to participate in a clinical research trial conducted through our office. Riverside Cardiology Associates is an investigative site for this trial, which is called "Valsartan Antihypertensive Long Term Use Evaluation," or VALUE in short. The study is designed to evaluate the effects of different blood pressure medications in patients with and without coronary heart disease when taken over six years. Jack has been an eager participant in the trial, and has been a model for other study subjects. We appreciate his enthusiastic support for out research activities, and for that reason have chosen him as Patient of the Month. If you are interested in learning more about our research activities or becoming a participant in any of our clinical trials, please check out our web page links to Inland Clinical Research, or call us at 909-686-ICR1 (909-686-4271) to speak to a research coordinator. |
