Patient of the Month
August, 1999
Richard Genelle
Richard Genelle has been a patient at Riverside Cardiology Associates since January 1999. His main health problem was that of intermittent shortness of breath for the last 2 years. Our evaluation revealed that Mr. Genelle was one of hundreds of thousands of people who suffer from congestive heart failure. His other health problems included diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking one pack/day and obesity.
Since January, through medical management, patient education, and dietary counseling, Mr. Genelle has made great strides in improving his health. In addition to standard medications to treat his congestive heart failure, Mr. Genelle is also taking Coreg, a newer medication proven to have great benefit in the treatment of heart failure. In clinical trials, patients who took Coreg were less likely to be hospitalized, more likely to have their heart pump better and were more likely to feel better.
Previously, he was not able to walk at times more than 10 feet without getting short of breath. Now, he has started swimming on a regular basis, quit smoking, achieved great control over his diabetes and cholesterol and has lost approximately 40 pounds. His dedication to his health and compliance with his medical regimen compelled us to recognize him as Patient of the Month!
